O movimento de um ponto no espaço define uma linha imaginária. Quando esse ponto se desloca e dá voltas sucessivas em torno de outro (polo), e do qual se afasta progressivamente, dá origem a uma espiral!

- A espiral é uma linha curva, concordante, aberta e ilimitada;
- A espiral provoca a sensação de movimento;
- A espiral é uma linha "harmoniosa".
A espiral tem designações diferentes, conforme o seu número de centros:
- A espiral bicêntrica tem dois centros;
- A espiral tricêntrica tem três centros;
- A espiral quadricêntrica tem quatro centros.
Numa espiral é fundamental saber o que é um "Ponto de Concordância":
- É o ponto onde termina um arco e inicia o arco seguinte, de forma que a ligação das linhas curvas seja exata e harmoniosa.
No exemplo acima, os Pontos de Concordância são: A, B, C e D.
